Lantern light. Narrow brick walls. Footsteps that shouldn’t be there.
This tee is part of our Dark Victoria series—original artwork inspired by Victoria, BC’s spookier folklore. Styled like a vintage horror poster, Fan Tan Alley captures the after-dark, Chinatown vibe of the city’s most famous passageway—made to stand out on a black t-shirt.
The legend behind the design
Local ghost lore says the “man running through Fan Tan Alley” is Ah Chung (or Chan). In versions of the story passed down over time, he’s tied to a tragic 1889 crime involving a young woman, followed by his death in jail. The legend claims his spirit is still seen rushing through the alley—sometimes described as bloody or clutching a knife—as if replaying a desperate escape, startling passersby with the sudden feeling of someone shoving past in the dark.
