The legend behind the design
One of the Empress’ most famous ghost tales is the “Empress Maid” story—often connected to Lizzie McGrath, a chambermaid who tragically died in 1909 after falling from the sixth floor. Local legend says her presence still lingers, with reports of cold spots and phantom cleaning sounds, as though someone is still quietly tidying rooms on that floor.
